Algeria, 1954. While the revolt rumbles in the valley, two very different men, reunited by a world in convulsion, are forced to flee together by the mountains of the Atlas. In the middle of a cold winter, Daru, the solitary teacher, has to escort Mohamed, a villager accused of murder. Pursued by men on horseback seeking summary justice and vindictive settlers, the two men decide to face the unknown. Together, they struggle to gain their freedom.
